Fashion week has found its mojo back. At the FDCI x Lakme Fahion Week 2022 we see designers and buyers networking, fashionistas hobnobbing and of course the post show parties buzzing. Backstage drama is back as choreographers yell at models not getting the walk right and the designer frets when the fitting goes slightly off. It’s all seemingly back to old times.
VAISHALI S
Couturier Vaishali S showcased a new couture line ‘Fil Rouge’ at FDCI x Lakmé Fashion Week that was true to her style of sculpted silhouettes created through extensive cording techniques on indigenous textiles.
The purple gown with sculpted shoulder and nip and tucks at the waist was an eye-grabber. and the ivory hour-glass gown with foliage like embellishments on the shoulder definitely made it an enviable show-stopper, donned by uber-stylish Shalini Passi. The collection also had well-crafted dresses that were layered with elements that can be worn separately or mixed and matched with others. A great show indeed.
J J Valaya, Rumeli, FDCI x Lakme Fashion Week, 2022
J. J. VALAYA
It’s been three decades now for couturier J. J. Valaya churns out regal fashion to the fashionistas. As a celebration of his 30th year in fashion, Valaya launched his new bridge-to-luxury brand – JJV. The label is eco-conscious and younger in appeal.
J. J. Valaya is an avid traveller and every collection of his is a narrative of his travels. His couture collection over the years imbibed elements from the Ottoman empire to the Baltic regions of eastern Europe. For the debut JJV collection titled ‘Rumeli’, Valaya dug into his travelogue and history of his own land- Kapurthala to create a millennial look from the ethos of Punjab. The collection was beautiful with traditional as well as contemporary ensembles. I particularly liked the back and gold belted lehengas, skirt with a bustier with oxidised metal embellishment. Same goes for the black and ivory maxi dress with oxidised silver yoke.
Varun bahl, FDCI x Lakme Fashion Week 2022
VARUN BAHL
Varun Bahl showcased his couture line that had traditional wedding wear, some beautiful sarees and occasional wear that were a juxtaposition of faux-fur lined long coats and avant-garde tops with shredded denims.
The bridal range was stunning with loads of up-cycled embroidery. The waist was the E-zone with flowing lehengas accentuating the hour-shape silhouette. Long-short hemlines, lots of trims, layers and vivid colours made the collection beautiful.
