The 16th edition of the Blenders Pride Glassware Fashion Tour powered by the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) kicked-off in Hyderabad with designer Amit Aggarwal partnering with the celebrated architect, Nuru Karim to present ‘Pride in Sustainable Fashion’. The collaboration between architecture and fashion celebrates the role of “Nature” both as mentor and inspiration to explore best practices in sustainable design.

Nuru Karim’s planet-positive design philosophy came through. Karim’s installation was made using recyclable materials and was inspired by the elements taken from nature. As the world becomes more conscious about ecology and the environment, it is heartening to see the fashion industry increasingly embracing it in every vertical involved in creating fashion.

Aggarwal has been constantly subscribing to ‘sustainability’ in his creations through upcycling, minimising waste, and using new-age fabrics developed from eco-waste. For Aggarwal, “Sustainability is about keeping the spirit of couture alive by marrying traditional craft with new-age materials, ensuring that indigenous textiles retain their charm and originality while also being modern.”
Nuru remarked, “It’s a matter of pride to come together with designer Amit Aggarwal to set forth a vision towards celebrating sustainability in fashion. The collaboration between architecture and fashion celebrates the role of “Nature” both as mentor and inspiration to explore best practices in sustainable design.”
The new-age bridal-wear collection created with conscious materials and design techniques employing traditional Indian crafts were stunning. Columnar dresses, Grecian draped gowns, sharply tailored tuxedos and jackets put forth a sartorial look on the ramp. Over the past decade Aggarwal has been experimenting with the concept of sustainability by breaking down existing materials to their elements and using them to create something new and beautiful. He adds, “The show was an extension of our principles to bring sustainability to the fore — at the intersection of fashion and high art.”
Falguni Shane Peacock ⨯ Dizy, Pride in Breaking Norms of Conventional Fashion, Blenders Pride Glassware Fashion Tour powered by FDCI 2022
The Blenders Pride Glassware Fashion Tour travelled to Mumbai where designers Falguni Shane Peacock, presented ‘Pride in Breaking Norms of Conventional Fashion’, showcasing a young, edgy, ‘street-meets-couture’ collection, set against the backdrop of a live graffiti art performance by Dizy, India’s first and only female graffiti artist.
She added, “Street- art reflects the bold new expressions of the youth of India, and it is exciting to see the Fashion Tour giving a platform to celebrate the brewing culture of street-art this year.”
The collection was aimed at the Gen Z fashionistas. The avant-garde and edgy elements of fashion combined with shiny fabrics and glittering embellishments made the collection stand out. There were a lot of puffer jackets, bling embellishments on black ensembles, wide-legged high-waisted pants paired with jackets. What I liked was the well-tailored trench-coat, the thin-ply denim wide-legged pants paired with thin-ply denim cropped jackets.
Talking about the show, designers Falguni Shane Peacock shared, “Our unconventional take on couture for the Fashion Tour emerges to take a young and bold new avatar. Taking inspiration from street art, we have deconstructed couture in a conceptualised street-chic way. It was all about a sense of freedom, exuberating an attitude of positivity and reflecting how street meets couture in the modern world.”
Besides the spectacular fashion show, the evening featured a new element in this year’s Fashion Tour and that is the ‘Style Gallery’ called ‘This is not a T-shirt’, curated by Ashish Soni and FDCI — an exhibit of T-shirt outfits designed by over 60 designers, who have deconstructed a basic Tee and embellished a T-shirt into an innovative design, celebrating their authentic interpretation of Pride.
