WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH, TOUGH GIRLS GET GOING

Three women designers who obtained their fashion degrees abroad interned abroad, and came back and started their own labels just before COVID-19 hit us like never before are just doing great. I am talking about three young women, all in their twenties – Apoorva Gupta, Trisha Lalani, and Ananya Jain who are taking the tough times in their stride and taking big leaps with their labels online.

Apoorva Gupta graduated from Parsons School of Design, New York, and then interned with Michael Kors and Oscar de la Renta. Back home in New Delhi, she started her own label – APZ in late 2019. Apoorva’s style is skewed towards fine construction, subtle detailing, and absolutely global in look. She says, “APZ echoes my personal style belief – luxurious simplicity adapted to everyday living.” Her rich color palette, high-waisted trousers, exotic detailing, like a new twist to the ‘leg-of-mutton’ sleeves’ are very fashionable. Vogue, India mentioned APZ in the ‘5 Indian fashion labels to know if you love soft tailoring.’
Since the Corona crisis, Apoorva has taken to online selling and is doing great on Instagram and her website – Shopapz.com.

Trisha Lalani went to Lasalle College of Arts, Singapore to further study fashion after passing out of Pearls Academy and then went on to do her Masters from Polimoda, Florence. Back in India Trisha launched her label – Tisch. Her style is highly inspired by architecture and geometry and in her own words, Trisha describes her label as “Tisch is a new-age label that draws inspiration from structure and geometry. Tisch is aiming to find symmetry in asymmetry.”
Her collection of sharply tailored Pant-Suit are eclectic and the vibrant hues give power-dressing a romantic vibe. She interplays sharp tailoring with soft folds and tucks. Trisha too has taken her label on the online platform and generates sales through her website and Instagram.

Ananya Jain acquired a degree in Fashion media communication from Nottingham Trent University and continued to study Fashion design and development at Manchester Metropolitan University. After six years of fashion education and internship stint, she joined her family fashion business but started an entirely new label – The Boozy Button.
Boozy Button is a label totally dedicated to loungewear and leisurewear. Ananya has ambitions of going global. She says, “I plan to have a separate column of upcycled products under The Boozy Button and contribute to environmental and societal values. Taking the brand overseas and having a wide international clientele, is an aim, which I am headed towards.”

Boozy Button has some gorgeous Kaftans, maxi dresses, and loungewear made out of Chanderi cotton that is emblazoned in glorious prints. Ananya sells online and taken The Boozy Button world in the digital space.
