As we enjoy more fashion from the comfort of our homes, we discover another creative dimension of the designers and that is the visual presentation in a 2D format. Every showing has a story to say.
Ravi Bajaj showcased his collection after a long gap and sang his way through our hearts. In fact the last show of Bajaj, he sang then too but had PVR’s Ajay Bijli to sing along with him. Ravi Bajaj’s collection paid ode to the Indian cinema of the 60s and 70s. As per him, “this was an era of some of the most fashionable and stylish stars of the Indian Film Industry.” What Shammi Kapoor, Rajesh Khanna, Helen, Sharmila Tagore, Vyjayanthimala wore on the celluloid was presented in a modern interpretation and signature Ravi Bajaj tailoring.
Payal Jain took upon a spiritual and meditative trip from Kashi to Sarnath and on the way picked up textiles and craft forms of the region. Blends of cotton and silk ‘Chanderi’, Organza and ‘Munga’ were used with traditional Banarasi jacquard work and Tibetan ‘Thanka’ paintings in the collection. Vibrant hues and weightless fabrics made Payal Jain’s collection a must-have for the next summer.
Ranna Gill’s collection is filled with bright colours and flora and fauna. Ranna attaches a hashtag to her collection #BuyNowWearNow. The collection created out of breathable fabrics as georgette and satin bloomed with floral embellishments. Belted dresses, her signature Dhoti Pants, tunics and maxis made Ranna Gill’s collection an enviable one. The range of hand-embroidered masks is paired to match the beautiful prints abundant in the collection.
Gauri & Nainika revisited their favourite styles with their patrons over the years to create their flowy spring/summer 21 collections. As per the designer – duo, “Statement-making dreamy diaphanous floral printed tulle has been used in floor-length gowns with sweeping cape sleeves for those looking to add a dash of red carpet glamour to their wardrobe.” The collection had strategically placed black roses in velvet to give their signature touch over polka-dotted and striped diaphanous dresses. A beautiful collection indeed.
Suneet Varma was in love as he created his pastel collection as in his own words, the collection epitomises, “The eternal lightness of being- to love, to hold, to kiss”. Varma presented his couture range that had soft-hued sarees wrapped over varied patterns of blouses. Tailored tunics and stylized sarees in fine chiffons were highlights of Suneet’s labour of love.
