FDCI X LAKME FASHION WEEK, WINTER/ FESTIVE PART IV: ON A WANDERLUST

No doubt we are seeing huge rush at the airports, train stations and on the highways as the desire to travel or go on a holiday is swelling. Even fashion designers are dreaming about holidays and are making clothes that are screaming wanderlust.

Pankaj and Nidhi reminisced about their travel memories of the Amalfi coastline in Italy and drew inspiration for the collection that they showcased on the runway at the FDCI x Lakmé Fashion Week.
The duo presented a line of great separates that had mix and match qualities – like the cropped tops, billowing-sleeved blouses, tiered skirts, and mini and maxi dresses that added a holiday vibe. The landscapes from Amalfi, were hand painted onto fluid organza, recycled chiffon and voile. Cutwork laces and jacquards added a luxe element to the collection.

Rina Dhaka wants her buyers to make a “Sweet Escape” in her collection and enjoy a great, fashionable, relaxed holiday. In her collection, the fringed belts gave the waistline an emphasis and the cut-aways, balloon sleeves, intricate pin tucks and gentle ruffles added to the relaxed look of the ensembles. The strappy and the off-shoulder swirling maxis, pleated jumpsuits, the midis with decolletage, belted kaftans and sarong skirts were oozing fun. The interplay of sheer and sold fabrics were deft too. Particularly striking was the jumpsuit with a pleated detailing at the hem and belted with colourful, crafted touches.

Shruti Sancheti digitally showcased a resort wear collection that had few constructed yet easy styles. Bold paisley prints and florals blended with checks, stripes and dots in colours like lilac, powder pink, prussian and mint green. Shruti showed cut out maxi ‘s, boho tiered dresses, lounge wear, midis and jackets that are season neutral. Surface ornamentation primarily used cord embroidery, cross stitches, French knots to embellish the garments along with lots of laces.

Gaurav Gupta got the curtains down for the FDCI x Lakme Fashion Week, Winter/ Festive 2021 with his grand finale show. It was a typical Gaurav Gupta show with a lot of sculpted gowns where ‘fan boning’ was a novelty factor. His collection reflected definition and precision – seen in the sharp lines and edges across the silhouettes. Intricate hand embroideries with hints of metallic shimmer in strikingly bold colours made the ensembles look spectacular.
