At the ongoing FDCI X Lake Fashion Week designers have taken to colours and celebrations with a vengeance. If Pankaj and Nidhi took to the candy floss palette, Suneet Varma went for vibrant hues of red, crimson and pink, while Gauri and Nainika had flowers blooming on theirs’.
Pankaj and Nidhi created sharply tailored ensembles consisting of mini dresses, maxis, girlie frocks with some fine-tailored jackets in hues of brilliant reds, luscious oranges, unabashed pinks, ultra-violet blues, and electric greens. Translucent fabrics and geometric detailing added to the creation of a vibrant collection.
The designer duo stated, “With this collection we are striving to spread joy and laughter, in the most trendy, stylish way possible.”
Suneet Varma presented ‘50 Shades of Happiness’ through his 2021 Couture Collection. “I am drawn to brightly coloured children’s books, stories from other long-forgotten times, dramatic storytelling and this is what my couture always celebrates — Happiness,” said Suneet Varma explaining his collection.
The look inspired by the splendour of the Valley of Followers was a marriage of modernity with the age-old crafts of India. There was a blend of tradition with the abstract and overwhelming it all was the sense of femininity.
Gauri & Nainika showcased a collection as pretty as a bouquet of blossoms. Comprising of ultra-feminine silhouettes of trapeze dresses, goddess gowns and frocks cinched at the waist with bows, the dresses were maxi length as well as above-the-knee length. Floral textures and pretty bows added to the beauty of the creations. Large rosettes and broad leather belts with giant buckles, accentuated the waists, while long trains gave the creations a sensuous appeal. Occasionally, the ruffled, wide collars and frilled tiered hemlines added a romantic look to the collection.
“After spending the many months of 2020 in quarantine, we were inspired by life in the slow lane, enjoyed the many phases of the moon, the setting sunsets, blossoming flowers that inspired our collection”, said Gauri and Nainika.
