In another season, during another time, Fashion Week would have been brimming with press, buyers, influencers and notable industry folk. Front row catwalks would be celebrity-heavy and the atmosphere abuzz with parties and events for its biannual fashion outing.
Making history in strange times, Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) and Lakmé Fashion Week (LFW) are jointly organising the fashion week that is ‘season neutral’. The fashion week kicks off with Anamika Khanna’s show , which will be digitally showcased and ends with Pankaj & Nidhi’s show that will be presented at the drive-in theatre at the Jio World. Audience will obviously be in their bio-bubble- the car, stocked with popcorn and soda!
FDCI has built up a ramp at their expansive office and has installed bespoke lighting where models will strut the creation of the designers and will be filmed and broadcasted over various digital platforms. The designers who are showcasing here are Anamika Khanna, the fashion-forward duo of Shantanu & Nikhil, the esoteric Payal Pratap will showcase her subdued glam, Suneet Varma, Nitin Bal Chauhan, Geisha by Paras and Shalini and others. There’s going to be a fusion edit by Taniera and new talents – Nidhi Yasha and Limerick by Abirr n’ Nanki.
At the Mumbai segment of Lakme Fashion Week, the organisers- RISE (formerly IMG, India) too have Gen Next designers- Rahul Dasgupta and Wajahat Rather showcasing their creations.
The showcasing at the brand new drive-in theatre at the Jio World is a baby step towards having a fashion show like pre-covid times. Here we will see veteran designer Ritu Kumar Showcasing her stuff. Then there will be Masaba, the duo who made gowns their life, Gauri and Nainika showcasing their latest creation and Pankaj & Nidhi will delve in their geometric art and Manish Malhotra will showcase his luxurious look before curtains come down on first ever joint FDCI x Lakme Fashion Week.
