DELHI ART WEEK: A WEEK-LONG CELEBRATION OF MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY ART, 3- 10 APRIL, 2021
Delhi Art Week (DAW) is a new, independent and collaborative initiative by City’s leading contemporary Art Galleries that aims to bring together Private and Public art institutions to raise awareness, educate and focus attention on modern and contemporary art in New Delhi. The aim is to inject fresh energy into the Art Scene in the capital. This Art- Focused week will witness curated shows, talks and walkthroughs from 37 galleries and institutions in their own spaces in the city of New Delhi. DAW aims to put visual arts in the forefront, and collectively create an awareness and love for the arts.
The inaugural edition seeks to strengthen ties between art organizations, art lovers, and patrons by putting together an exciting calendar of art exhibitions, talks and walkthroughs over a sustained period of time. Delhi Art Week will enhance, encourage and increase the synergy within the arts for the public and art-loving audience in the capital. It aims to bring back audiences to the galleries and museums in the pandemic era.
Thirty seven participating galleries; four institutions, including two museums with over fifty Exhibitions featuring two hundred and fifty Artists. The city has been divided into four art zones, where one can find clusters of galleries and institutions listed in each Zone.
“Delhi Art Week 2021 is a celebration of visual arts spread over a week across the city of Delhi. With over 50 exhibitions showcasing more than 250 modern and contemporary artists, DAW aims to engage and energise established and emerging collectors and art enthusiasts at our galleries and institutions, leading to a self-sustaining model for the art community. DAW is a collective and focused effort which aims to strengthen ties between different players of Art Fraternity.” says Co-organizers of Delhi Art Week: Tariq Allana, Associate Director, Art Heritage; Sunaina Anand, Director, Art Alive Gallery and Reena Lath, Director, Akar Prakar This was possible because of the common vision of all participants to create a cohesive and strong presence of art within the city of Delhi. Every gallery and institution in our list has willingly come forth with ideas and resources to make this initiative a strong entity. We believe that every participant has an important role in making the initiative not only successful, but also in enhancing collaborations between private and public art institutions, collectors and the public.
In this inaugural edition, DAW’s efforts have focused primarily to create an online portal through which audiences can seamlessly navigate visual arts-related activities across New Delhi. A new website www.delhiartweek.com has been launched, which identifies four distinct, location-based ‘art zones’ across the capital city. Galleries and art institutions are plotted on an interactive map. The website provides visitors with a downloadable schedule of gallery openings, exhibitions, talks, walkthroughs during April 3-10.
