THREADED VISIONS: CONTEMPORARY EMBROIDERY FOR SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
MASH PRESENTS THREADED VISIONS CONTEMPORARY EMBROIDERY FOR SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
MASH presented Threaded Visions: Contemporary Embroidery for a Sustainable Future, embroidered by Milaaya Embroideries and curated by Arshiya Lokhandwala April 3-6 at Snowball Studios from 11 am to 7 pm.
A unique exhibition, Threaded Visions: Contemporary Embroidery for a Sustainable Future, brings together Indian masters and exceptionally skilled craftspersons to address the challenges of Climate change with sustainable solutions.
The exhibition not only brought to the fore the richness of Indian embroidery, but also tries to reinvent the notion of interdependence of humans and the environment they inhabit. The works of Indian modernists like Ghulam Sheikh, Nilima Sheikh, Ranbir Kaleka, S.H. Raza, Ram Kumar and K.K. Hebbar were translated onto the fabric, meticulously hand embroidered by Milaaya Embroideries’ skilled artisans.
The artisans embroidered the works by incorporating various traditional Indian embroidery techniques including Aari, Zardozi, Satin stitch, Phulkari, Kutch embroidery, and Kantha stitch knots, among others. The exhibition also included a live presentation by the artisans, who practiced their crafts in the studio.
