FDCI X LAKME FASHION WEEK IS A KALEIDOSCOPE OF VARIETY PART I

The first-ever joint Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) and Lakme Fashion Week kicked-off on the 16th of March 2021.

The dazzling show by designer Anamika Khanna presented a collaboration of art and textile. Ensembles were hand-painted by artists and further ornate with embroidery and beads and tassels. Anamika has ventured into menswear which too she showcased. Her primary Colour palette was monochromatic on which she dabbled with a rainbow of colours. The floor-duster jackets, the tasseled jacket and one-shoulder fluid off-white dress were some beautiful pieces that we saw in the dramatically filmed show.

“My collection is a collaboration of art and textile and will be an homage to the fact that what is created will one day perish. What is left behind is legacy, and what matters most is what you do with it.”

-Anamika Khanna

Shantanu and Nikhil showed a very sporty and edgy collection that they called #SNSafari. The collection drew inspiration from the millennials and would definitely woo them. It was all about understated luxury. From asymmetric kurtas and cropped jacket shirts for women; to open cut sherwanis and structured shirts with Nehruvian details for men, alongside casual-chic elements of T-shirts, sneakers and shorts, the brand offers a sartorial choice for our uber-cool millennial customers.

“Having completed one year in this enriching journey, S&N with much gusto now presents, #SNSafari a collection that reinforces the celebratory and blithe spirit of the brand,” say the brothers Shantanu and Nikhil.

Payal Pratap’s collection was a mix of sombre tartan and a bloom of flowers. The burst of colours were subdued by plaid overtones and that made the look enigmatic.
In her own words, Payal states, “Confinement accords a strange sense of limitless freedom…..Where the mind is free and cannot be bound. This collection pendulates between myriad emotions from reminiscing, introspecting, internalising to connecting to one’s roots, invoking a flood of memories.”

Maxis, sari dresses, peplum tops, jackets and wraps provided a variety in the collection. Fine details like sequin highlights, cross-stitch motifs, smocking and hand-woven elements beatified the ensembles.
