As the India Couture Week 2024 proceeds, we see more opulent shows with bespoke couture and Bollywood stars making their presence felt. Paparazzi seems besotted by the movie stars but hard core fashionistas got their gaze fixed more on the fashion as seen on the ramp.

Here are some more highlights from the India Couture Week 2024 that stood out.
CALIGULA’S FEAST By Siddartha Tytler
Caligula, known for his debauchery and over-the-top lifestyle was well mapped by Siddartha Tytler in his couture collection. We witnessed heavily embellished ensembles with glitzy embroidery and appliqué work. Sheer fabrics highlighted the sensuality factor by juxtaposition of opaque embroidery to create a peek-a-boo effect.

Siddartha’s collection featured jewel tones like ruby, emerald, royal blue, and black, accented with gold and gunmetal embellishments and embroidery. Lehengas, anarkalis, saris, gowns and dresses formed part of the line up. Men walked in rhinestones, crystal and sequin embellished sherwani, bandhgalas and kurtas.

What impressed us were the layered silhouettes and the puffed voluminous ones. Crafted with deft nip and tuck artistry, the looks were quite avant-garde.

SEHRA by Kunal Rawal
Kunal Rawal’s festive couture 2024 was an epitome of quiet luxury. The ensemble highlighted Rawal’s mastery with great tailoring and apt use of traditional techniques in enhancing the look of each ensemble.

Beautiful Ikat-work sherwani, sherwani stitched in resplendent brocade, rich velvet jacket with stitch detailing, beautiful detailing using French knots and intricate tone-on-tone threadwork and evergreen bandhani made Rawal’s collection a winner, a collection that embodies India’s traditional craftsmanship and pays ode to rich textile heritage of India.

MURAQQA By Jj Valaya
JJ Valaya literally had us spellbound by his magnificent collection. Laborious intricate embroidery and beautiful motifs made Valaya’s collection a stupendous one. Add to that, perfect silhouettes that spoke volumes about the design aesthetics and engineering gone behind doing the patterns and cuts at the Valaya atelier to create the collection.

Valaya’s penchant to travel the world and capture beautiful architecture and local art is well-known. His love for the Ottoman empire’s beautiful legacy is insatiable. In the Couture 2024 collection, JJ once again drew inspiration from Ottoman intricacies and art deco lines. Motifs drawn from Persian carpets, miniature paintings and flora and fauna found place onto his regal ensembles and narrated a mystical story.

Loved the Chevron patterns that JJ Valaya has made his signature and the deer motif that ran across the borders of the beautiful lehengas and saris. The stoles and shawls draped over sherwanis and bandhgalas showed magic accessorization can do.
