Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) is presenting its first-ever Digital Couture Week as it is the need of the times but the times, they are changing. Halfway through the Digital India Couture Week 2020 we realise that our couturiers are shouldering the responsibility to bring joy to our lives with uber creativity as couture is purely about unbridled joy, glamour, luxury and living life to the hilt. In the shows seen through magnificently curated films we see our designers bringing us out of the gloom with oodles of glamour.
GAURAV GUPTA
Gaurav Gupta brought in his enigmatic collection with a very pure message of all encompassing love. About Gaurav Gupta’s collection – I have always been amazed by his swirling sculpted gowns that I have seen over the years and am now exhausted of adjectives to compliment his beautiful creations. The hint of swirl on the lapel of the men’s jacket was nice. Loved the short black and grey ruffle dress that looked like a rose.
SUNEET VARMA
Suneet’s collection was swathed in glitter. The couturier has also found fancy with the head-bands or tiara lately to accessorise his looks. Shoulders seems to be the new E-zone this season and Suneet too accentuated the shoulders with ruffles and tucks & folds. The yellow lehenga-choli were out-of-the box creations
AMIT AGGARWAL
“Couture for me is a feeling of wearing an outfit that is made especially for you, embodying your spirit and aesthetic”, states Amit Aggarwal. The elements of nature inspired Amit Aggarwal’s couture collection and that’s why we see variants of blue. The chevron pattern of metallic threads that are woven into his gowns are eye-grabbing and the way he sculpted wind-blown effect on the sleeves and shoulders of his creations were stunning.
RAHUL MISHRA
Rahul Mishra’s ‘Lotus Pond’ collection was an extension of his ‘Butterfly People’ collection that he showcased at the Paris Couture Week. Always admired his work’s intricacy and fine detailing and more so the textiles that he uses. Embellished with flora and fauna motifs and use of psychedelic threads to embroider his creations, Rahul Mishra yet again churns out a beautiful collection
DOLLY J
Dolly J has blurred the difference between western bridal gowns and traditional lehenga – cholis. Her use of chikankari work and mix of pastel and jewel tones made the collection pretty. “We have developed a special fabric which is luxe silk organza, woven with jacquard for the collection”, stated the designer.
JJ VALAYA
JJ Valaya is the maestro of regal look. For his Couture 2020 collection, JJ borrowed historical elements of Ottoman empire to create a sequence of saris, sherwani and lehenga-cholis. JJ used burnished metallics and gold for embellishment to give them an antiquated look. A JJ Valaya collection would be incomplete without the use of Zardozi work and Swarovski crystals sewn in to ornate his regal pieces.
