After a hiatus of two years, India Fashion Week is back on the ramp with designers showcasing their collections on the ramp in presence of an audience. Post two terrible years of COVID-19, the FDCI X Lakme Fashion Week is on at the Capital at the Major Dhyan Chand National Hockey Stadium. Fashion is on the roll.
Rahul Mishra, Enchanted Garden, Couture Collection, FDCI X Lakme Fashion Week, 2022
The FDCI X Lakme Fashion Week is celebrating ‘Fluid Season’ whereby a designer has the freedom to showcase Spring/Summer 2022, Fall/Winter 2022-23, Couture as well as Diffusion collections. The Week kicked off by an off-site show where Rahul Mishra showcased his Couture 2022 collection, ‘Enchanted Garden’ that he showcased digitally for Paris Couture Week in real on models strutting in those enchanting ensembles in the garden of the Italian Embassy. Seeing those creations in real was more enigmatic than what we felt while watching it digitally.
MASH India featured the Couture Collection earlier. This time the Show was accessorised by Italian labels like bags from Bottega Veneta and shoes from Salvatore Ferragamo – a tribute to Italy, the country where Rahul Mishra built his fashion foundation.
Shantanu & Nikhil, Nomad, Couture Collection, FDCI X Lakme Fashion Week, 2022
Day 1 of FDCI X Lakme Fashion Week saw Shantanu and Nikhil present their edgy couture collection ‘Nomad.’ Shantanu & Nikhil said, “Returning to the ramps and the hustle of backstage after two years feels surreal, especially when FDCI and Lakmé Fashion Week are united to create this groundbreaking synergy.”
Shantanu & Nikhil’s look was dramatic with hooded silhouettes, loads of tasselled detailing, hunting jackets, hats and trenches, all in sombre hues. Embossed detailing was interesting and the collection indeed brought the wild side out of the label.
Alpana Neeraj, FDCI X Lakme Fashion Week, 2022
Alpana Neeraj made a comeback on the ramp after a while and showcased an ultra-feminine collection that celebrated life post COVID. It was all in nude hues, monochromes and pops of pastels in the form of huge bows and shoulder embellishments on gowns and coat-dresses. Sharply tailored cuts married to fluid drapes is typical Alpana Neeraj look.
Sonal Verma, Rara Avi (right), Shruti Sancheti, Alchemy, FDCI X Lakme Fashion Week, 2022
Sonal Verma’s brand ‘Rara Avis’ used Uzbeki handloom silks with Indian Mashru and a variety of cottons to create a collection that was a riot of colours. Long jackets and floor-dusting maxis were synergised with her signature accessories and jewellery. It was a young look with loads of zing in it. Plenty of separates are great for fashionistas who love to mix and match.
Shruti Sancheti’s ‘Alchemy’ collection was created with Maheshwari fabric, sheer Chanderi and silk from Karnataka. Shruti used innovative material for embellishments like silver diskettes and metallic threads to create modern motifs.
The line revealed great options of classic silhouettes that included easy separates, which could be ideal “mix and match” stories for buyers who love to experiment. Royal Rajasthan found favour in the collection in the form of Pita and Ektar work.
