TOP EXHIBITS NEW YORK (DECEMBER)
1) DRIFT: FRAGILE FUTURE, THE SHED
DRIFT engages in immersive art installations that are inclusive of soundscapes, film, projection mapping and other digital softwares. Fragile Future exhibited at The Shed, New York is a multi- sensory show inspired by earth and it’s natural processes, making us more conscious towards in-animate subjects.
2) CHRISTIAN DIOR: DESIGNER OF DREAMS
Designer of Dreams is exhibited at the Brooklyn Museum that traces the eight decade legacy of the design house. The show is curated by Florence Müller. On display are over 200 couture garments, videos, photographs, sketches,accessories and works from the museum collection.
3) JOEL SHAPIRO AT PAULA COOPER GALLERY
In the current solo exhibit at Paula Cooper Gallery, Joel Shapiro explores colour in sculptural forms. They are exhibited in a manner that the sculptures interact with the space highlighting the colour play between representation and abstraction. The show is on until December 23 at New York Gallery.
4) SURREALISM BEYOND BORDERS MET MUSEUM
Surrealism was birthed in Paris around 1924, often depictive of poetic, humorous and subconscious thoughts. The exhibit Surrealism Beyond Borders at MET MUSEUM focuses on the revolutionary art movement spanned across 45 countries over eight decades. The exhibition is displayed until January 30, 2022, Met Fifth Avenue, New York.
5) GUADALUPE MARAVILLA: LUZ Y FUERZA (HEALING SOUND BATHS) MOMA
“I create new mythologies that take the form of real and fictionalized rituals based on my own lived experiences,”
says Guadalupe Maravilla.
The artist was introduced to Sound Therapy while he was struggling with cancer. Healing Sound Baths are a part of Mesoamerican myths and Salvadoran traditions. The Sound Bath Sculptures are made of organic materials and man- made objects. One can view this immersive exhibit at MOMA through December.
