WINTER 2020’S BEST HIGH FASHION LOOKS

Regardless of whether or not fashion weeks are happening or we are leaving the house, fashion still exists, and a new season is here to show us what it has to offer. If 2020 did anything to our psyche when it comes to our wardrobes, it puts what good clothes mean to us into perspective. When we are sitting at home for months on end, dreaming about a life outside of sweatpants, it’s easy to see how much our clothes do for our identity in a precedent world; our fashion choices are both an expression of ourselves and a part of who we are, whether we realise it or not. Whether or not you opted to wear any non-sweatpants this year, you probably felt an ache for a former version of you that strolled into the office in the morning in clothes that made you feel your best, rather than keeping a revolving door of sweatshirts at the ready. These are the trends we have narrowed down for winter 2020:

Cardigans
One has probably seen every fashion Instagrammer y rock a cardigan or two this fall, and they aren’t going anywhere this winter. From tiny, cropped options to slouchy, chunkier ones, the cardigan is the knitwear of the season. The shrug-it-on ease of a cardigan, the librarian favourite is back on all the biggest and brightest catwalks. Worn with everything from Seventies-hued denim to trouser and pencil skirts, Please re-frame and make it sound sensible.

The Balloon Affair
There is only one rule when it comes to sleeves this season: pump, pump, pump it up. From bulbous creations at JW Anderson to Marie Antoinette-inspired cake dresses with serious presence at Moschino, unexpected volumes lifted numerous collections. Ruffles and leg o’ mutton shapes at Max Mara to statement swathes at Jil Sander and shoulder shelves at Isabel Marant, nothing says “she’s arrived” quite like an XXL sleeve. Already pressed inflate on your sleeves? Well then, you’re halfway to autumn’s boldest look, which deals in extraordinary proportions.

Golden Gal
Gold has smashed through a new price record on the global markets as the pandemic continues to take effect, but fashion got there first: the runways of Tom Ford, Paco Rabanne and Oscar de la Renta were filled with glistening gowns and sumptuous day dresses from Celine. Definitely a go for Gold this winter.

Leather
Reframe , including pants, making it to the top of the list. Reframe ; there is hardly anything chic than a good pair of leather pants in the winter. To feel more 2020, one must opt for a trouser fit rather than a skinny one. In the history of Fashion, there indeed were XXL coats, shearling coats, trench coats, and capes, yet it was the buttery-soft leather coats that were most fashionable.

70’s Inspired
If you have been on any store’s website over the past few months, you might’ve noticed some prints and colors that remind you of your grandma’s old living room wallpaper, but the patterns and olive and deep orange tones are paying homage to the 70’s, a trend that is more prevalent than ever, this season. It might be time to dig through your mother’s old clothings that she probably could never part with.

Oversized Puffers
Gone are the days, when, having worn a giant winter coat was considered a fashion faux pas. This year, the bigger, the better. Make a statement with a puffer in an oversized fit, out-of-the-box color, or fun texture. Take a cue from the runways of Prada and Dior to make a fashion-forward puffer jacket an integral part of your outfit. Look for details like deep-set side pockets, cinched waists, and non-traditional zipper placements that will help tackle sub-zero temps with style.
